COUNTISBURY

June 1984

Countisbury was originally a BBC landlord site which entered service during October 1980 to provide West regional programming to about 1250 people in Lynmouth and Lynton on the North Devon coast. The area had been served by Welsh UHF television from Wenvoe until then.

The original RBL receive arrangement was four vertically spaced log perioidics. At this time the BBC had installed 2 horizontally spaced log periodics in an attempt to improve the re-broadcast feed to this station, which suffered from co-channel interference and tidal fading. There is a link to a BBC RD report about these improvements at the foot of this page.

"Middle of Nowhere" seems an apt description of the location of this station
