BURNASTON LANE

The original 1990 antenna

Burnaston Lane is the MF site used by BBC Radio Derby - a rather unusual three wooden pole arrangement, similar to Lacock.

The original Radio Derby 'Burnaston' site at SK298307 was moved a very short distance by the BBC in 1990.

If I remember correctly they initially had trouble with the aerials regularly going out of adjustment and giving an unacceptable standing wave ratio measurement. The fault initially could not be traced, but eventually it was realised that it was numerous birds resting on the wires that was causing the problem. I believe a bird scarer of some kind was initially used to remedy this, but maybe a long term solution has now been found?
