WELLS-NEXT-THE-SEA

Photos by Sean Cooper Page last updated: 2013-12-23

DSO Changes - August 2012

As part of digital switchover (DSO), the Wells-next-the-Sea tower received new RBR & TX antenna systems. The old analogue Tx cardioid faced south, whereas the new Tx cardioid faces west. The ERP was also increased from 90 W to 1 kW.

Plenty to read before entering the site compound...

The tower, on a nice sunny day in August 2012 (Sunny days were very rare in Summer 2012!)

A better view of the new antenna systems. The new transmission system is enclosed in the GRP shroud (at the top), and the new re-broadcast receive (RBR) antenna (rectangular panel), which replaces the log-periodic aerials

Above, the RBR panel, which receives UHF TV signals from Tacolneston.

A closer view of the GRP enclosed UHF TV transmission antenna system.

Even though the site is called 'Wells-next-the-Sea', it's actually situated on the former RAF Langham airfield, near the North Norfolk hamlet of Cockthorpe
