GIGHA ISLAND

Photos by Paul O'Neil and Martin Briscoe Page last updated: 2024-07-28

Gigha Island in the West of Scotland is located just off the coast of Kintyre in the shelter of the larger Isle of Islay. Unfortunately, Paul omitted to take a picture of the aerials but, with such a beautiful location, can it be long before one of our intrepid contributors fills the gap.

Gigha Island was originally a BBC landlord site which entered service on 22-Nov-1983 to serve 700 people. Channel 4 was added on 6-Sep-1985 when the parent site South Knapdale commenced transmissions.

Below: it's taken a while but we now have pictures to hand from Martin Briscoe and the antennae are now revealed. Presumably the RBL is somewhat awkward....?

These photos from Martin may well predate the ones from Paul.
