BALLACHULISH

Photos by Martin Briscoe Page last updated: 2023-10-12

1976 & 2004

Ballachulish was one of the original Band I sites in the Great Glen chain with a SHF link from Ardgour. BBC TV on VHF channel 2, entered service on the 18th March 1963. Closed 5th April 1982. BBC FM radio was added on the 6th January 1968.

The Band II was line fed on the reversible Fort William - Oban PO lines. It used an early solid state Band II transmitter drive, the EP7/5A VIFM. Kinlochleven relayed Ballachulish though seems to have had its own line feed at one time.

Ballachulish, probably around 1976. Before UHF TV was added (1978).
