The biggest town on Skye, Portree, is completely screened from the island's main transmitter, Skriaig. The Penifiler relay serves the town

The first image explains the topography






The tower was built for UHF television. The wooden pole alongside once carried Band I as well as Band II
















The shed, adjacent to the old wooden pole, which appears to be the main 'transmitter hall'.

Bill wonders how many times it blew away before management agreed to some cables and stays to hold it down...



...and who was in the loo at the time?! ;-)
