DALMALLY
Photos by Martin Briscoe | Page last updated: 2023-03-29 |
Dalmally was originally a BBC landlord site which entered service in November 1981 to serve around 600 people. Channel 4 was added on 21-Aug-1987. The site is located just North of the old military road from Dalmally with the Duncan Ban MacIntyre Memorial on the other side of the road. It is fed from Dychliemore which is a solar / wind power active deflector relaying Torosay The earliest of the pictures are probably in the 1990s though could be 1980s. Services transferred to the new tower on 29-Aug-2000. |
At this stage the receive antenna was likely to be the two yagis just visible about one third of the way up on the right hand side of the tower There is also a group of four logs slightly higher up - possibly an earlier arrangement which became unsatisfactory? |
By 2001 a new tower had been built but the old structure had been only partially dismantled |
The old tower is missing its top section - which is just visible on the ground to the left of the vehicle By this stage the receive antenna had evolved to a group of four yagis, very close to the ground - but the logs were still in place higher up |
Another view of the receive yagis on the old tower |
The receive antenna on the new tower - the grey cabinet is for one of the mobile networks |
Above and below: by 2003 the old tower had been completely removed |
