PATELEY BRIDGE

Pateley Bridge medium wave

This had to have been one of the most compact AM masts in the country - the Pateley Bridge medium wave filler for Yorkshire Dales ILR station Fresh AM. This was one of the very low power sites which supplement the main 936 kHz frequency of this station which can be difficult to receive away from the central Dales particularly after dark.

The site was not easy to photograph as it appeared to be in the back garden of a large house on the edge of the village and was protected by a couple of very fierce dogs whom I did not wish to provoke.

The site covers the immediate area around Pateley Bridge - the signal does not get very far before co-channelling with the Skipton transmitter makes acceptable reception impossible. In fact, the quality of the reception from this site was very poor on my visit anyway. Sitting in the car just a few hundred yards away (and in the middle of the village) the reception was very distorted as if the line input was too high or some similar sort of problem. I suspect it was a fault rather than normal otherwise Fresh AM would not be attracting many listeners in the area.

As the info above suggests the station has now been upgraded to FM.
