THE TRANSMISSION GALLERY

ONICH

David Neale's original observations: Well, this one's a bit of a puzzle... we have some horizontal logs at the top of the pole. The transmissions are not listed as having any horizontal component so are they alternative receiving aerials? The vertical rx-log lower down suggests there is a strong enough signal to be had from another nearby relay, but perhaps it suffered from tidal fading problems?

MA provides the solution: The top horizontal antenna transmit to the folk of Ardgour across the Loch, the lower single vertical log receives Torosay.

This horizontal component, which appears to have been added to the site as something of an afterthought, remains undocumented in the official listings.

Martin Briscoe : An area near Clovullin was poorly served by Torosay so a horizontally polarised feed was transmitted from Onich in that direction - a sniff from a directional coupler fed through a separate amplifier.
