THE TRANSMISSION GALLERY

COPLEY

Photos by Lee Goulding Page last updated: 2023-03-28

Copley with wooden pole - March 2003

Copley was originally an IBA landlord site which entered service on 6-Jan-1984 to serve a population of about 850 people. Channel 4 was added on 6-Dec-1985 when the parent site at Halifax also started Channel 4 transmissions.

This photo shows the mast and its two aerials, one of which points to the feeding Halifax transmitter and the other broadcasts to the small reception area on the other side of the Calder Valley.

I could not tell which aerial was which as each points in the same direction.

The second picture shows the area to which Copley's transmissions are beamed. This is the area on the opposite bank which is shadowed from both Halifax and Emley Moor and otherwise suffers poor television reception.

The houses immediately below the mast all appear to receive clear signals from Halifax as I could not see a single aerial pointing towards Copley, despite its close proximity.
