Updated May 2015

Pitlochry entered service on 21st December 1964 with both BBC 1, VHF channel 1, (closed July 1984), and BBC national FM radio. UHF TV on 3 channels went into service on 14th November 1975, with Channel 4 from September 1984. FM radio was converted to stereo in 1989 and Radio's 1 & 4 were added in 1993. BBC DAB went into service on 1st August 2011.

Stuart's photo is prior to the addition of DAB - at that point all broadcast services were from the tower on the right

Mike's photos show the DAB antennas and dish have been added to the "other" structure, shared with EE and Airwave

Original tower with UHF TV and FM radio - the two six-element yagis suggest difficulty in receiving Forfar.

The original Band II installation (see BBC Research Department report linked below) consisted of horizontal dipoles on bearings 200 and 350 giving a modified "figure of 8" radiation pattern. Pitlochry remains a horizontally polarised FM transmitter. The band II log periodic close to the top of the tower is the main receive aerial for Forfar.
