KINGS LYNN

The King's Lynn site sits in the Sandringham Royal estate. For DSO it received a new tx antenna, replacing the original bowtie stack Editor's note: we have been unable to trace a planning application - which might have given some clue as to the reasoning - but a similar change at Burnham involved the new shrouded cardioid being on a slightly different bearing. It's possible the retention and upgrading of the three "coastal" relays may be to offer an alternative to Tacolneston in areas where co-channel interference from the continent might otherwise be a problem?

The site itself sits within trees so is difficult to get a full view of the structure

Among the mobile phone gear you can see the 4 receive logs on Tacolneston. The new transmit antenna is the white cylinder right at the top

The receive antennas on Tacolneston as seen through the trees

The new antenna uses the same mounting as the old bowties. At Burnham the new antenna is a "shrouded cardioid", but here it is an omni.

The site buildings and various outdoor cabinets. The substation feeding the site is labelled (more correctly, perhaps) "Sandringham Transmitter"
