LLANDYFRIOG
Photos by David Baker and Wayne Brewer | Page last updated: 2015-03-09 |
DB writes: This relay stands right by the side of the A475 from Lampeter to Newcastle Emlyn, so while passing I took the opportunity to grab a few snaps. The VHF logs on the wooden pole RBL Blaenplwyf. I was unable to photograph from any other angle due to the site being pretty much surrounded by well populated fields of cattle. Pre-DSO Ch5 was added to Llandyfriog as the result of a self-help scheme. Originally a BBC landlord site, TV channels 1- 3 entered service on 4th November 1977, with S4C available from the launch on 1st November 1982. DSO was on 19th August and 16th September 2009. BBC FM radio was added in December 1981, with Radio's 1 & 4 added on 17th March 1994. The first three pictures are from David Baker, and the rest are from Wayne Brewer, but from two separate visits; the second visit paid by Wayne was in order to try and photograph the very elusive UHF rx aerial. |
Llandyfriog - update or "the wee sleekit tim'rous rx log"... It's so close to the metalwork of the mobile phone antenna system, it is difficult to see - let alone photograph: |
From behind, the elements can just be seen |
From the front, a little nose pokes out |
From below, it is camouflaged against the band II grid. You can also see how close it is to the top of the mobile phone support. |
