RUMSTER FOREST

Rumster Forest is the most northerly main station in mainland Britain, bringing TV and radio to the Caithness and Sutherland area in NE Scotland. It entered service transmitting 405-line ITV on VHF channel 8 on 25-Jun-1965. Closed April 1983. UHF TV transmissions commenced on 24-Dec-1973 to serve about 43,000 people. Channel 4 was added in February 1984. Interim DTT from December 1998. BBC FM radio entered service on 16-Mar-1984 on 90.1 / 92.3 / 94.5 replacing Thrumster as the transmitter for this area. Radio's 1 & 4 were added on 6-Aug-1993 on 99.7 & 104.5 respectively. Radio 4 was changed to 95.6 on 23-Apr-2002. Radio nan Gaidheal entered service on 6-Aug-2003 on 104.6. Despite being an Arqiva site Classic FM is not transmitted. |
