WEST RUNTON

DAB aerials & Post DSO - March 2014

This is a difficult site to photograph as it is surrounded by woodland. I could only find two locations where there was a reasonably clear view of the tower.

The band III DAB transmit aerials shared by both BBC and the Norfolk local services. The dipoles face south.

The UHF cylinder looks very clean and therefore it is unlikely that this is the original 1968 installation. West Runton was effectively given a significant ERP increase at DSO, remaining at 2 kW. Contained within is a cardioid facing slightly west of north (340°).

The four element band II Yagi on the right transmits the horizontal component of Radio Norfolk. It points west.

The UHF receive trough panels look unchanged. From this angle the upper panel appears to be obstructed by the SHF antennas. It's not.

June 2014: we've had a note from Arqiva's "Viewer Contact" for Cromer who confirms that the cylinder was changed for DSO at the time that the erp was increased.
