GOGWELL

Photos by Mervyn Mugford Page last updated: 2023-04-09

The Gogwell VHF radio relay went into service in April 1997, thus being one of the last relays to be commissioned before the FM improvement scheme implemented by the BBC was cut short, in part due to the transfer of BBC Transmitter Operations to the private sector.

The Tiverton UHF site was considered but not chosen for the FM relay, perhaps because Gogwell is better placed to provide coverage down the valley of the Exe thus improving reception towards Bickleigh and beyond. In addition FM coverage is vastly improved for some miles north of Tiverton even though the HRP is listed as maxiimised in the sector 105 to 335 deg ETN.

TV services for Tiverton come from the nearby Arqiva site
