KIRKCONNEL

Photos by David Neale Page last updated: 2023-03-09

2003

Kirkconnel is a small village in the upper reaches of the Nith Valley to the north of the strangely named town of Sanquhar. The relay is situated on a hill called Todholes Hill on the east side of the valley.

Originally an IBA landlord site, TV channels 1 - 3 entered service on 19th December 1975, with Channel 4 from May 1984. The UHF cylinder contains a SSW facing cardioid. DSO was on 8th and 22nd June 2011.

The UHF receive trough aerial in this picture is pointing towards Darvel, which was the RBL source pre-DSO.

From this angle it can be seen that the BBC FM Tx aerials consist of two horizontal and two vertical band II logs. They are pointing roughly south-east and west.

The year was 1989. Radio 1 was added on 29th January 1993.
