BURNHOPE

The Burnhope station was established by the Independent Television Authority in 1959 to provide the programmes of Tyne-Tees Television to Newcastle and the North-East of England. 405-line ITV on VHF channel 8 commenced on 15th January 1959 and ceased in January 1985. TV transmissions returned to Burnhope with Channel 5 on UHF channel 68 from the launch on 30th March 1997 until DSO 2 in the North-East of England on 26th September 2012.

ILR Newcastle (Metro Radio) launched on 15th July 1974 on 97.0 MHz. Frequency changed to 97.1 MHz on 14th January 1987.
Century FM (101.8 MHz), 1st September 1994. Galaxy 105-106 (105.3 MHz), 1st June 1999. Durham FM (102.8 MHz), 5th December 2005. Smooth Radio (97.5 MHz), 8th January 2008.

DAB service dates: Tyne & Wear, December 2000; North-East, 12th June 2001. Closed July 2013.
