LIMBER HILL

Photos by Mike Smith Page last updated: 2023-05-17

Limber Hill, overlooking the village of Glaisdale to the West and Egton to the East is one of four transmitters along the Esk Valley in North Yorkshire - Whitby, Aislaby, Limber Hill and Castleton (A more recent addition built in 1989 and not to be confused with Castleton in Derbyshire).

Whilst Bilsdale provides a good strong signal across the moors, much of its power is shrouded from many of the villages in the Esk valley by the steep "U" shaped glaciated valleys, and Limber Hill provides coverage for areas such as Egton Bridge, Grosmont, Glaisdale and Lealholm.

Limber Hill was originally a BBC landlord site which entered service on 22-Apr-1977 to serve about 1000 people. Channel 4 was added on 1-May-1987. DSO was on 12th and 26th September 2012.
