Chalford serves a deep valley to the east of Stroud called Golden Valley, at the bottom of which flows the River Frome. Coverage includes Chalford itself and Brimscombe.
For UHF the receive trough aerial points at Mendip, and broadcast is via the UHF panels at the top of the mast. Two point north west towards Brimscombe, and four point north east towards Chalford.
For network FM, there is a single vertical log periodic pointing towards Wenvoe, and transmissions are from two vertical dipole arrays mounted on the northern leg of the mast. Again, one array points north east, with the other facing north west.
Chalford was originally an IBA landlord site which entered service with 3 UHF TV channels on 6-May-1977 to serve 1,500 people. Channel 4 was added on 15-Aug-1986. DSO was on 24-Mar and 7-Apr-2010. |
