Some years ago, Nick wrote: "Not to be confused with the South Hams Radio relay - listed in this gallery as Dartmouth VHF - this is the TV relay. The pictures were taken from the other side of the river in Kingswear. The most distant picture was about 3/4 mile away, hence the lack of detail. This site is shared with O2 GSM & TETRA, Orange GSM & UMTS and 3 UMTS.
Next time I am on leave I will take my bicycle and camera across the ferry and try to get some closer shots."
Nick did, indeed, return in June 2009 but somehow in the change of submission process the update was mislaid. We are grateful to Nick for resubmitting. He comments: "... not up to date but better than the originals.
The site is completely walled in by large trees so the only place to get detailed shots is at the entrance gate - this puts you almost at the foot of the tower so all shots are looking upwards. Medium distance photos of the whole tower are not possible. Once you are sufficiently clear of the trees to see the mast, the distance is too great to show good detail and only the top of the tower is visible anyway."
Originally an IBA landlord site, TV channels 1 - 3 entered service on 25th November 1977, with Channel 4 from November 1984. DSO was on 8th and 22nd April 2009. |
