THE TRANSMISSION GALLERY
GREAT BARTON
Photos by Sean Cooper | Page last updated: 2015-06-30 |
Sean has provided a comprehensive update with the comment: "It must be sometime since Gary Bluett took his photos of this transmission site, and while nothing appears to have changed here, I thought some new photos in HD would show some more detail" |
This photo was taken from around 380m north-east of the site |
The sloping wire reflector can be seen against the white/grey clouds, rising up from the compound on the right to the top of the mast |
The bottom of the sloping wire reflector. The compound is a bit over grown with grass and nettles! |
The top of the mast, showing the 4 tier VHF Band II (FM) antenna array, as well as the MF (AM/MW) sloping wire reflector rising to the top |
Warning signs on the side of the mast and antenna tuning unit compound... |
...from what I remember, the mast base compound is very similar to that at Gunthorpe (Peterborough ILR), with a C&S Antenna filter & tuning unit and 2 coaxial feeders rising up to the VHF array Again, this compound is in need of the grass, etc being strimmed |
'Danger High Voltage'... and some more stinging nettles! |
The VHF Band II (FM) 4 tier antenna array at the top of the mast, with the top of the MF (AM/MW) sloping wire reflector shown on the right |
The building housing the local commercial radio (AM & FM) and BBC local radio (FM) transmitters |
Sean commented: "not exactly sure what purpose this yagi antenna serves, as it faces in a north-easterly direction" Editor's note: we believe this will be to receive RDS data from Tacolneston |
Finally the site's signage, which has seen better days |
