HAWKSHEAD

Photos by Simon Linney Page last updated: 2024-04-12

2005

Hawkshead is on the other side of Grizedale Forest to Coniston High Man. Even though there is a lot of high ground in the forest, there aren't many places where both Coniston and Hawkshead can be seen.

The main stack of log periodics is for the north east into Hawkshead village. The others are for the villages of Sawrey and Satterthwaite. Like Coniston High Man, there are re-broadcast feeds from Kendal and Winter Hill.
This site is also used by Vodafone and the schools internet service (on 2.4 GHz). Hawkshead and Ambleside also have their own local wireless ISPs.

Hawkshead was originally a BBC landlord site and a relay of Winter Hill with site number 103.50, which entered service on 17-Jul-1981 to serve 1,600 people. ITV was changed to relay Kendal in 1982. Channel 4 was added on 16-May-1986.
