WICKHAMBROOK

Photos by Ben Smith Page last updated: 2020-03-26

DAB - June 2009

The Wickhambrook DAB TX is located to the East of Newmarket, near the Village of Wickhambrook in an area known as Genesis Green. It is mainly used as an SHF link site, but also has a 2m band amateur repeater station (GB3EA) - and now a BBC DAB relay.

It is a BT site, and as such a very sturdy, even over-engineered structure. I also found an old stay blook still in-situ, which would indicate a previous guyed mast at the site - maybe MF? - does anyone know? (Editor's note - yes there is some history...)

The DAB dipoles are very prominent, and are located on the N.Western 'leg' of the tower, about 3/4 of the way up. They are a simple array of four evenly spaced dipoles. BBC DAB service date 18-Jun-2004.
