SHILBOTTLE

Photos by Bill Wright and Mark Carver Page last updated: 2016-05-27

Bill takes his wife Hil to some fantastic holiday destinations...

"Possibly my enthusiasm was dampened by the nasty cold horizontal drizzle that prevailed during my visit, but what a dreary spot this turned out to be! The site is on the edge of some sort of dreadful agri-industrial hell hole, with tortured roaring and whining from both machine and beast, and all-pervasive foul odours. To think that we owe the cornucopian delights of our supermarkets to these places!

"I plodded around in pools of unidentifiable ordure taking my pictures, afterwards putting my boots in a dustbin liner and binding this tightly with gaffer tape. Later I took the parcel to the local council’s hazardous waste site, where a tightly controlled incineration was carried out."

A Sira band II aerial is used to transmit Metro FM. Service date June 1996.

MC: I totally endorse all of Bill Wright's comments about this site, just as awful on a sunny July day.

Two tiers of phased band III folded dipoles were used to transmit the North-East regional DAB service from November 2001 until the service closed in July 2013.

Metro's Rx Yagi - directed towards Burnhope
