LLANDDONA

Photos by Martin Brown & Wayne Brewer Page last updated: 2024-04-25

July & August 2016

Four years on from when Dan took the previous set of pictures in June 2012, we now have the replacement main UHF aerial in situ at the top of the mast. Other than the new main Tx panels, there doesn't seem to be any changes since Dan Glover's visit in 2012.

The first 9 pictures were taken by Martin in July.

From the top down we have the main (S1) UHF aerial, then the S2 reserve, four tiers of band II FM radio panels, and at the bottom the DAB aerials.

This three sided main UHF aerial creates a convenient place for the ladder to go.

Marconi band II panels.

As with the UHF main aerial the Band II aerial has no panels on the north face (bearing, 15 degrees).

The band III, DAB aerials comprising two dipoles and two 5 element Yagis.

The UHF trough panels face Moel-y-Parc. These provided the RBL programme feed for ITV & Ch 4 and RBS for BBC 1 & 2. They continue to be used for RBS purposes. The main BBC programme feed was via an SHF link from Bwlch Mawr. The band II Yagis on the left are facing Blaenplwyf for Radio Cymru RBS. The band II Yagi at the bottom of this picture is facing Holme Moss for RBS of Radio's 1 - 4.

Wayne also visited Llanddona a few weeks later in August 2016.
