HIGH HUNSLEY

Photos by Martin Watkins Page last updated: 2022-12-21

High Hunsley in 1984

High Hunsley was built by the BBC to provide an FM transmitter site for Radio Humberside, which launched on
25-Feb-1971 on 95.3 MHz. The frequency was changed to 96.9 MHz on 23-May-1973. The original installation transmitted with horizontal polarisation. The aerials were replaced with slant polarised dipoles just prior to the addition of ILR (Viking Radio, 102.7 MHz), in 1984. It is these aerials that we see here in Martin's pictures.

The photo above and its closer detail (below) were taken by Martin Watkins in 1984.

On 17th April 1986 the frequencies were changed, with
Radio Humberside to 95.9 MHz and Viking Radio to 96.9 MHz.
