TURNERS HILL

DAB aerial changes - September 2016

Turners Hill forms part of the Rowley Hills, and is quite a prominent site, especially from the M5 motorway.

There was news that the DAB aerials may have been modified, so I went to take a look.

No change to the national DAB turnstile at the top.

However (and note the wire to the left)...

The 2 Birmingham DAB panel aerials have been replaced with 2 dipoles, in front of a screen, and moved from the northeast to northwest tower leg. Also the Wolverhampton DAB folded dipole cardioids appear to have been rotated slightly further round to the north. The boom arms for these dipoles seems to have been shortened and are now only attached to one vertical pole. Earlier pictures show them attached to 2 poles.

No change to the Band II FM radio aerials.

Does anybody know what the SHF dish is for? It's unusual that's it mounted so far up the tower.

[Ed]. mb21 received a reply to this question. Apparently it was for Staffordshire Police in the 1990's.
