Rob returned to Burton and commented "I had only intended to get higher resolution pictures of the Tx colinear, but if I think I know what I'm seeing HP is now being provided by some kind of antenna lower down (anyone name it?) although I could easily be wrong. The main colinear has also had a height increase of a metre or so too, probably slightly improving coverage." Alan notes that the relay is low powered (40 W horizontal and 50 W vertical) but as well as covering Burton upon Trent and Swadlincote transmissions from this site are receivable over quite a wide area.

...and the "back" - the change is at the very top...

A horizontal component is provided from the square loop (most likely a Shively Labs model 6602B) with the vertical component using a JayBeam end-fed dipole.

Six years later and Alan's photos show nothing much has changed...

The antennas are 47 metres above ground. Ofcom data shows the HP component has reductions of 1.8 dB on bearings 0, 90, 180 and 270 degrees - making the pattern slightly "square" rather than truly omnidirectional. Curiously the VP component is also documented as having a a very slight reduction in ERP - 0.2 dB on bearings 40, 130, 220 and 310 degrees. This suggests some interaction between the two antennas - but the overall combination is a good approximation to the ideal.

Not highlighted before, this slant-polarised yagi faces Lichfield.

At the time of Alan's visit work was in progress...

...possibly involving one or more of these. The effect of the brick cladding and corner detailing is slightly spoiled by the rather more "industrial" appearance of the cable runs.
