BOSCASTLE

Boscastle is - and will be again - a beautifully picturesque coastal village nestling in a steep-sided valley on the north Cornwall coast near Tintagel. I've visited the village on a number of occasions before and wondered how to access the Tx site but on this occasion, in Spring 2004, I had more time to explore. |
The road south out of the village makes a hairpin turn as it snakes up the valley side and you pass some houses which have TV aerials pointing up towards the relay, literally at an angle of 45 deg. These photos were taken before the traumatic flash-floods which occurred in August 2004. |
Almost hidden at the top of the valley lies the tiny, compact village of Forraburry, beyond which the relay sits, in farming land between the village and the coastal path. |
The roads of the village were too narrow to park in, so I left my car, walked through the village, around the churchyard and into the farming land owned by the National Trust. I continued walking along the paths provided through the spectacularly beautiful scenery and reached the relay site without difficulty. |
Boscastle was originally an IBA landlord site which entered service in August 1982, with Channel 4 from November 1983. |
