Mast F (500 ft)

Mast F is the main transmit aerial for 5Live on 909 kHz.


Our first photos shows the original 500 ft mast at BP in its original state with anti-fading top section. This mast came from Ottringham and was brought into service on 29th September 1946 for the London Home Service on 877 kHz. 908 kHz, from 15th march 1950.


The original Mast F collapsed during re-tensioning works on 29th September 1956. Today we see the replacement Mast F.


And here's the same mast today, which now transmits the BBC Five Live service. The mast came from Ottringham.
