ASHFORD (WILLIAM HARVEY HOSPITAL)

Photos by Dan Glover Page last updated: 2017-01-07

November 2011

Launched in April 2011 as AHBS Community Radio (Ashford Hospital Broadcasting Service), Radio Ashford shares programming with the hospital station. Due to the existing "local" commercial station (now KMFM) the station is not allowed to raise income from advertising or on-air sponsorship.

The Radio Ashford antenna is on a water tower behind the main hospital building...

...which also carries mobile phone and other communications antennas.

Ofcom data shows no ERP restrictions and vertical polarisation only - this looks like the type of Jaybeam end-fed used by many CR stations.

We understand the dipole was used for outside broadcast linking and has subsequently been removed. The transmitter is line fed from the studios, located within the hospital.
