THE TRANSMISSION GALLERY
HEATH HILL

Heath Hill is the Telford transmitter for Signal 107, previously Telford FM/The Severn. Telford FM started broadcasting in May 1999. Listening to 107.4 MHz on the way to the site, there was a degree of hiss behind the audio, like the site is receiving another transmitter or a noisy line. However, I found no trace of an aerial or a dish pointing towards the studios in Wolverhampton, and Arqiva's reference offer (see link at end of page) indicates that the site is line fed. Maybe something temporary?

From a distance, looking south east. The broadcast antenna is the single folded dipole at the top, on the right.

The access track is very steep...

...and the site identifies itself as "Dawley Heath Hill"

Alan thinks the transmitter is most likely to be in the brick building.

From close quarters it's difficult to spot the broadcast antenna...

...there it is, a single folded dipole

As seen from further away...

The antenna unusually points away from Telford and westwards towards The Wrekin. A way of avoiding too much spillage towards Wolverhampton and the West Midlands perhaps? Editor's note: According to Ofcom data, maximum ERP is on bearing 300 with a 10 dB null at 140. The licence requires a 6 dB restriction between 100 - 140 degrees.

Further down the tower, a few links but none which seem to face in the direction of the studio...

...a few empty supports...

...and some redundant equipment awaiting disposal.
