THE TRANSMISSION GALLERY
HOO ST. WERBURGH VHF
Photos by Dan Glover | Page last updated: 2017-01-22 |
Ofcom data showed the frequencies used by KMFM at Gillingham and Hoo St Werburgh to have been swapped - nothing else seemed to have changed at Gillingham, but what about the other site? |
The tower has been cleared of non-broadcast antennas, leaving just three which all seem to be for Band II. The site initially looks to be at the bottom of someone's garden - but it is within a separate compound immediately adjacent to the road. |
The upper antenna appears unchanged, however the vertical component is now from a nearly-new 3-element yagi. Previously a phased pair of dipoles were used. The two antennas are combined onto a single feeder. |
Further down another 3-element yagi, also fairly new, but of a different style. Is this a receive antenna with Hoo St Werburgh now a relay of Gillingham? |
The compound hosts a single enclosure. There's no signage on the gate to indicate ownership. |
Peering through the fence we see another vertically polarised antenna much lower down - plus a domestic grade "halo". Very odd and apparently both have been there a while. |
