HEADLESS CROSS

Photos by Neil Byng Page last updated: 2023-04-14

The BBC Hereford and Worcester transmitter at Headless Cross entered service on 5-Dec-2005.

Ofcom parameters suggest a reduction of 6 dB is required on bearings 030 and 250 - this has been achieved using two dipoles spaced to give a figure of 8 radiation pattern with the maximum ERP on bearings 140 and 320 degrees.

A planning application for DAB some years later reveals the Band II receive antenna is a yagi just to the right of the small cabin on the left hand part of the roof. The transmit antenna is mounted high above the mobile phone installation on the top part of the roof.

The location of the site makes it difficult to take photos at close range...

...however from here we can see there are two folded dipoles with approximately 90 degree separation.
