MANCHESTER OLD TRAFFORD (DIGITAL SELF-HELP)

Photos by Alan Price Page last updated: 2017-03-29

The digital installation - March 2017

Quite a well engineered self help relay, it serves the houses shielded by Manchester United’s stadium, which lies in the way of Winter Hill. It operates as a conventional transposer transmitting all six main DTT multiplexes.

It seems mainly Railway Road which is affected, and streets between it and Chester Road (A56). Some houses in the area use the relay, but most aerials seem to be pointing directly at Winter Hill. This is one of only a couple of dozen self-help relays to have have been converted for digital.

The twin grid type transmit aerials have been replaced with these panel aerials.

Rx aerial pointing at Winter Hill.
