HAMELDON HILL
Photos by Malcolm Pritchard | Page last updated: 2017-03-30 |
Hameldon Hill was built by the BBC for Radio Blackburn which launched on 26th January 1971 on 96.4 MHz. The omni-directional slant polaraised aerial system seen here, consisted of two tiers of four horizontal dipoles and a single sleeved vertical dipole at the top. The station name had been changed to BBC Radio Lancashire by the time I took this photo on 20th September 1983. The frequency was moved to 95.5 MHz around 1986/7. A 2 meter amateur radio repeater GB3RF used the same tower. Hameldon Hill is also home to a Met Office weather radar in its own radome. |
