| The Croeserw TV and FM Radio relay is located just to the West of the town of the same name, South of Cymer and is on the top of Foel Fawr. Croeserw was originally an IBA landlord site which entered service on 28-Feb-1975 to serve 4200 people. S4C was available from the November 1982 launch. BBC FM radio entered service on 5-Feb-1993. |
| At first access looked easy, but then I soon found out why no-one had visited this site before, access was via a very steep, unmade, rocky track. |
| Being pretty much tree-locked the target area was hidden from view at ground level. |
| For UHF Tx, Croeserw has two sets of 4 vertically polarised panels. One set pointing North-West, the other set pointing North-East. A pair of horizontally polarised log-periodics pointing slightly east of due north were added in December 1983. The logs transmit on identical channels to the panels, but with an ERP of only 2W. It is likely that these horizontal logs were added to feed Glyncorrrwg, which relays Croeserw, and lies in that direction. |
| The RBL trough is pointing roughly North-West at the parent station Preseli and is located on the Western face of the tower. |
| The band II FM Tx panel aerials are located between the level of the Rx trough and the TV panels at the top of the mast. The band II panels are on all four sides of the tower. |
| The FM Rx log is 10m up on the North-Western 'leg' of the tower. It's horizontally polarised and clearly pointing towards Kilvey Hill, itself an FM relay of Wenvoe. |
