THE TRANSMISSION GALLERY

SWINGATE

Photos by Dan Glover and Peter Vrakking Page last updated: 2016-01-13

August 2010 and May 2011

In March 2010 one of the three towers was dismantled, prompting quite a lot of discussion amongst locals as to the future of the other two - see links at the end of this page.

I visited one evening in August 2010 in an attempt to get more detailed photos of the broadcast antennas. Peter's photos from May 2011 give the wider context.

I've tried to match the perspective of the previous photos, but the focus looks a bit off unfortunately. The obvious change is the removal of SHF dishes from the left hand tower. Oh and there seems to be a tower missing on the right.

There are two groups of four "Spearhead" mixed-polarisation panels. Only two faces of the structure are used - no coverage required either south or east from this site.

I think we have two horizontally polarised yagis in the direction of Wrotham

Further up are two vertically polarised logs

There's not much on either of the structures these days

Peter's photos show us the view from sea level. The building on the right is Dover Coastguard, complete with radar and communications tower
