ALSAGERS BANK

Photos by Stuart Cocker Page last updated: 2017-06-22

August 1975

We are very grateful to Stuart for providing these historical images showing the original installation for BBC Radio Stoke.

The building probably has survived as one of the current cluster. The mast was replaced by the current tower at the end of 1982, also bringing slant polarisation, stereo and a change of frequency.

In the early days horizontal polarisation was the preference. This arrangement of four groups of four dipoles was presumably intended to provide near-omnidirectional coverage from a light-weight mast.

It appears half of the array was mounted on each side of the structure - perhaps for mechanical reasons?
