We are very grateful to Stuart for providing these historical images showing the original installation for BBC Radio Stoke. |
The building probably has survived as one of the current cluster. The mast was replaced by the current tower at the end of 1982, also bringing slant polarisation, stereo and a change of frequency. |
In the early days horizontal polarisation was the preference. This arrangement of four groups of four dipoles was presumably intended to provide near-omnidirectional coverage from a light-weight mast. It appears half of the array was mounted on each side of the structure - perhaps for mechanical reasons? |
