Photos by Stuart Cocker | Page last updated: 2020-05-26 |
Stuart's slide shows the original BBC Radio Merseyside installation - similar to that for BBC Radio Stoke at Alsagers Bank. Radio Merseyside launched on 95.85 MHz at 2.5 kW ERP, on the 22nd November 1967. This frequency was changed to 95.8 MHz and the ERP increased to 5 kW, still transmitting with horizontal polarisation, during 1972. The mast seen here was replaced with the current tower for the addition of ILR and the conversion of Radio Merseyside to slant polarisation, in 1975. |
The four tiers of four horizontal dipoles form a light-weight option to give near-omnidirectional coverage. (The round objects at the top of the mast are assumed to be aircraft warning lights.) |
