WALSDEN SOUTH

Photos by Lee Goulding Page last updated: 2023-09-17

2003

This site provides television and FM signals to the valley of the Walsden Brook between Todmorden and Littleborough on the West Yorkshire / Greater Manchester boundary.

Walsden South was originally an IBA landlord site which entered service on 10-Aug-1979 to serve 830 people. This was as a relay of Winter Hill with site number 103.67. In 1982 ITV was re-attributed to Emley Moor and Walsden South was given a new site number of 104.66. Channel 4 was added on 12-Jun-1987. The two BBC channels were re-attributed to Emley Moor prior to DSO at Winter Hill.

This photo shows the mast, including the receiving aerials which although appearing
to point in the same direction actually receive their feeds from 2 different sites -
UHF from Walsden and FM from Cornholme both of which are roughly north of the site.

The year was 1990. Radio 1 was added in 1994.
