THE TRANSMISSION GALLERY

MAPPERLEY RIDGE

Photos by Richard Maycock Page last updated: 2024-11-29

October 2005

The Mapperley Ridge TX in Nottingham transmits BBC Radio Nottingham, ILR Nottingham and DAB radio. The Band III DAB aerials share the same aperture as the Band II FM aerials.

This site replaced Colwick Wood, which was the original FM transmitter site for both BBC & ILR Nottingham. Both services moved here during 1989. BBC service date was 22nd February. Aerial height 30m.

A new interleaved band II and band III was brought into service on 18th February 2004 near to the top of the tower at 46m.

DAB service dates: Nottinghamshire, 30th April 2004; Digital One, 21st September 2006; BBC, 28th August 2008; Sound Digital, 29th February 2016.

The interleaved band II and band III transmit array.

This horizontally polarized band II yagi near the base of the mast is pointing towards Sutton Coldfield - presumably this is for reception of RDS data.
