DAB added & new UHF Tx aerial - July 2019

Since Martin Watkins visited Sidmouth in February 2013, DAB has been added and the UHF transmit aerial has been replaced.

DAB service dates: BBC, 17/10/2014; Digital One, 22/2/2016; Southeast & North Devon, 22/2/2016.

At the top the 4-tier open UHF cardioid has been replaced with a white cylinder. On the left are two tiers of 5 element band III Yagis for DAB transmit. Also a new UHF log periodic receive aerial much higher up the tower than the original. Below that is an SHF antenna which is likely to be providing the local DAB programme feed from Beacon Hill.

Close up of the new UHF TV transmit cylinder. Note the new steelwork attached to the aerial mounting frame. It was installed during May 2018, in preparation for 700 MHz band clearance. This is the third UHF transmit aerial installed at Sidmouth. See the earlier pictures.

Lower down the tower is the satellite receive dish used to provide the programme feeds for the two national DAB multiplexes. The Southeast & North Devon Mux is fed via an SHF link from Beacon Hill. Below is the original UHF receive log periodic and a telemetry satellite dish.
