TILLICOULTRY

Photos by Nicholas Coulter Page last updated: 2020-07-11

June 2020

Out visiting my local relay transmitter in Tillicoultry today. It operates at 2W on DTV, was 5W on analogue. Transmission is from 2 antennas which point in opposite directions. There are no differences to the Arqiva equipment since Alex Sive's visit but the site is now shared with O2 and Vodafone, so has gained many new antennas and the tower has even grown a few meters.

Firstly a view of the now quite busy tower.

At first when I compared this image to the previous ones taken I thought the TV antennas had been moved down. However on closer inspection I now see that this is not the case. The tower has been extended for the mobile phone antennas. This was most likely to avoid tree cover being an issue for the high frequency mobile antennas as the site is surrounded by tall trees as you can see in other photos.

The second TX log pointing to the northerly part of the town. Really this relay could have done with another antenna pointing to the west or a cylinder antenna with a few more watts on it as the most dense part of the town is left in the dark by this relay, I guess it was decided they had a sufficient signal from Black Hill already.
