New Sira Rx Panel - July 2020

I took advantage of a post-lockdown holiday to beautiful Shetland in July 2020 to get a look at the new Rx arrangements for the Collafirth Hill relay.

General view, with new Sira panel visible on the lower RHS of tower.

Tx panels transmitting in a south / south-easterly direction. The main target is the village of Brae, some 5 - 6 miles away.

Original Rx logs on the LHS, new Rx Sira panel on the RHS. Given the different directions they are facing, my view is that the logs are on Bressay and the panel is on Swinister.

The other tower on Collafirth hill, used mainly by the mobile phone companies. 4G coverage is now extensive across the Shetland mainland and outer islands.

This installation is just beside the main tower. I'm guessing that it is an MF Tx used by the Coastguard service.

Bleak landscape.
