'Incremental' radio station RTM Radio launched on 18th March 1990 serving South East London and Dartford in Kent. The station was originally licensed on 103.8 MHz with an ERP of 40W vertically polarised and directional coverage. This was quickly increased to 160W due to co-channel interference from BBC Radio Bedfordshire (now BBC 3CR) from Zouches Farm. RTM Radio was notable because it was the first UK broadcast station to operate its own transmitter, rather than use the Independent Broadcasting Authority/NTL engineering. The site was originally owned by Phillips which later became Simoco. |
The original three element yagi antenna on the tower. This was pointed east to prevent coverage of too much of London and to protect BBC Radio Bedfordshire. In 1996 the antenna was replaced with a crossed yagi to give circular polarisation with a change of frequency to 106.8MHz. This resolved the CCI problem. |
