GREAT ORMES HEAD

Photos by Jack Richardson Page last updated: 2022-03-03

February 2022

Came up here on a family day out. The Great Orme overlooks Llandudno as well as a fair part of the North Wales coast. Pretty sure Holyhead Mountain was visible in the distance, but couldn't spot the Isle of Man or Cumbria on this visit.

I remember coming up here as a kid, and I'm sure I remember the dish at the bottom right having Mercury Communications written on it. Obviously changed now.

Located just behind the tower is this yagi. I wonder if it's the feed for Classic from Holme Moss (or Heart from Moel-y-Parc)?

[Ed]. From Great Ormes Head, Holme Moss is on a bearing of 81 degrees, Moel-y-Parc is 110 degrees. The satellite view on Google maps of the building wall shows it aligned at about 110 degrees, therefore I conclude it is receiving from Heart from Moel-y-Parc.

Snowdonia mountains. The A55 skirts between the mountains and the coastline here.

Looking towards Anglesey. Not really visible in this photo but Llanddona will be somewhere in between the sun and the tower.
