Stafford is low lying, much of the town built on marshland from the River Sow and River Penk. This means that the signal from Alsagers Bank is weaker in the town that it is on the surrounding hills, leading to the need for this relay. This site covers around a 5 mile radius of Stafford, as soon as you go over Yarlet Bank towards Stone or down Weston Bank towards Uttoxeter, Alsagers Bank is the stronger signal and takes over on RDS AF.
Signal's site at Pye Green is higher up on Cannock Chase and covers a wider area, though the beam is very much concentrated on the Stafford area.
