THE TRANSMISSION GALLERY

GLENACHULISH

Photos by Jack Richardson Page last updated: 2023-02-16

November 2022

Was on the way down to Oban so thought I'd stop by and get some photos. Parked at Leitir Mhor by the A828. Set off from there following the tracks till one came to a waterfall and seemed to end. Turned back and decided to go up the side of the hill following a fence for support. I was starting to get worried how I was going to get back down as it was going dark. Thankfully a couple of minutes later I saw the transmitter which I knew had a track leading back to civilisation. Why I didn't follow it in the first place and park in Glenachulish I don't know, but probably wouldn't have had as much light otherwise.

According to Ofcom parameters, Nevis Radio started broadcasting from Glenachulish in 1997. This site has good coverage of the Glens. As well as the Loch Leven area, I've also received a decent signal down Glen Tarbert into Strontian, down to Appin, Glen Nevis and on the A830 around Beasdale.

Two folded dipoles transmitting Nevis Radio. According to Martin's previous commentary, the folded dipole at the top is for SSE.

Receive aerial pointing towards the old site at Trislaig. This is not in use anymore as the site is fed via IP. I suspect this is via the dish on the right.

Looking north west. Onich is the village in the centre, Clovullin on the other side of the Loch.
